ABOUT FILMUFORIA

As independent film grows in popularity – especially with younger audiences and the over 60s – indie and arthouse cinema continue to bag the biggest share of the National box office, according to recent BFI research. There are up to ten new indie releases every week in London alone, and we cover these – all in one place – with reviews, interviews, trailers and an up-to-date listings guide. 2018 has been a brilliant year for women in the industry with emerging and established talent garnering awards across the general release and international festival circuit.

Filmuforia brings you news from the local London film seasons and retrospectives: Kinoteka (Polish); Turkish; Nordic; Spanish; French; Asian; Portuguese, LGBT; Jewish, Romanian, Open City Docs, Human Rights Watch and Sundance London, amongst others, for cinephiles with a penchant for cult and eclectic film. Arthouse cinemas are popping up nationwide – thanks to Curzon, Picturehouses and the Everyman Group which grows from strength to strength. Our Guide to Independent Cinema tells you where to catch the latest releases in luxurious, ‘state of the art’ surroundings in London and nationwide.

Travelling further afield, we’ll be taking you to the main international festivals with reviews on the latest World premieres: Sundance; Rotterdam; Berlin; Karlovy Vary; Cannes; Locarno; Venice; Toronto and some of the more niche festivals: New Horizons Wroclaw; WarsawIFF; Copenhagen Architecture X Film Festival. FIDMarseille has now joined the list and we will visit IDFA; Zurich, Dubai and Pingyao (China).

Please remember that Filmuforia is still independently financed to preserve the integrity and independence of our coverage and to avoid swamping the site with irrelevant advertising. Sponsorship or donations are always most welcome – every little helps us to give you more. Just the price of a cup of coffee from each of our readers would enable us to finance our working film journalists throughout 2018. So, if you like what you read please make a contribution.

And if you want to join the team with some film-related content, please get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.
